WHEN ARE YOU AT GREATER RISK FOR VEIN DISEASE?

Your veins are vessels that carry blood from your body’s tissues to your heart where they pick up more oxygen and then recirculate throughout your body. The muscles in your legs aid in this process by contracting intermittently to help pump the blood upward, towards your heart. Each vein has tiny valves inside it to keep the blood flowing in the right direction; this one-way traffic prevents blood from flowing backwards or pooling in your legs. When a malfunction occurs in one or more of these valves, this becomes the common condition we call venous insufficiency or vein disease. Venous insufficiency is what causes varicose veins and spider veins and affects more than 30 million Americans.

Over time, this increased malfunction in the veins can cause additional valves to fail. If left untreated, it can lead to leg pain, swelling, ulcers, and other health problems. If you think you have venous disease, call us today at the Las Vegas Alpha Vein Clinic so we can examine your legs and provide accurate answers to all your questions.

THERE ARE TIMES IN LIFE WHEN YOU ARE AT HIGHER RISK FOR VEIN DISEASE:

#1- DURING OR AFTER PREGNANCY: A woman’s RISK of vein disease is about four times higher than normal during pregnancy. Risk is actually highest in the first few months after the baby is born (called the postpartum period). The risk of DVT is five times higher during the postpartum period than during pregnancy, and the risk of pulmonary embolism is fifteen times higher.

#2- IF YOUR PARENTS SUFFER FROM VEIN DISEASE: family history can increase your risk of developing this too often under diagnosed disorder. People with a family history of varicose veins or spider veins, regardless of health or other factors, tend to have the highest risk of developing venous insufficiency.

#3- IF YOU STAND OR SIT ALL DAY: Standing for prolonged periods of time as a function of your profession or, likewise, sitting for an extended period can increase your risk for venous insufficiency as this general lack of movement can lead to blood flowing backwards and pooling, causing varicose veins and spider veins.

To fully get rid of your leg pain, treating the diseased veins is a great option. Here At Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas we offer the latest minimally invasive vein treatments available, including but not limited to radiofrequency ablation and the ClariVein procedure. Both of these treatments have a short recovery time and are covered by most medical insurance plans.
