How Early Can I Get Back to Work After a Vein Procedure

Unlike other medical procedures, new vein treatments require small to almost no recovery time at all. Read on to learn more about the treatment process and when you can expect to return to work and your normal day-to-day routine.

Since the new vein treatments eliminates the need for groin surgery and general anesthesia, the recovery is minimum. The procedure results in little to no scarring and is generally performed using local anesthesia in a vein specialist’s office of an outpatient surgical facility. That’s why you can actually go to work the same day!

If you’re having a major procedure, such as vein surgery, your recovery time will be greater than other forms of treatment. With vein surgery, for example, you may need to stay overnight in the hospital, particularly if you live alone. You’ll be able to gradually resume normal activities, with many being safe after just 48 hours. However, you’ll need to wait between 1 and 3 weeks to return to work. You may experience pain and discomfort for up to 3 weeks following your surgery.

Non-surgical treatment options have a much shorter recovery period. With Endovenous Ablation, for example, you don’t need to be hospitalized and the procedure is typically performed with just a local anesthetic instead of general anesthesia. In most cases you should be able to return to work the very next day. In fact, some patients go to work immediately following th procedure, but most opt to take a day for recovery. Even with a non-invasive procedure, some activities may be off limits for a few days. With Endovenous Ablation, for example, you can’t lift heavy objects, do anything straining, or engage in vigorous activity for 7 days. With Mechanical Occlusion Chemically Assisted therapy (such as ClariVein) you can also return to work the same day.

At Alpha Vein Clinic, we offer several types of vein treatment, and can educate you on what you can expect from the recovery process and when you can return to work and resume your normal day-to-day activities. Don’t let the fear of being out of commission prevent you from seeking treatment that could offer relief from your symptoms. Instead, call us today to set up an appointment and learn more about the treatment option available for you and what you can expect.
