DOES MY INSURANCE COVER MY VEIN TREATMENT?
Here at the Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas, almost all procedures we do are covered by insurance and are deemed medically necessary. We do have a procedure that we do offer in our Las Vegas office that is just cosmetic and that is Sclerotherapy which is not covered by insurance, However we have many options available as far as price and payment goes.
Here at Alpha Vein Clinic, we use Radiofrequency Ablation or MOCA (also known as Clarivein) to treat the underlying incompetent larger veins as a medical condition. We then observe the progress of the undesirable visible veins for 1-2months. For majority of our patients, there is a significant cosmetic improvement to the point that they no longer need to spend any out of pocket money to do further cosmetic Sclerotherapy.
For the minority who still would like us to do cosmetic therapy, the extend of veins needing treatment would certainly be less. Hence, it would be significantly easier and cheaper to treat. On the occasion that particular individuals have large varicosities or extensive spider/reticular veins, we can inject the veins during MOCA treatment at no extra cost to our patients. Here is a little more information about those two procedures that are covered by insurance in our vein clinic and what they can do for you and your veins.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA):
Radiofrequency Ablation is a minimally invasive treatment that involves the insertion of a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a diseased vein to seal it shut using heat. Blood that would normally return toward the heart through these veins will then travel through other veins instead. Over time the treated vein shrinks and is absorbed by the body. Compared with surgical options like ligation and vein stripping, endogenous (RF) ablation results in less pain and quicker recovery time.
The Venefit™ procedure offered by Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas is the only minimally invasive segmental radiofrequency (RF) ablation treatment that utilizes radiofrequency energy to provide an even and uniform heat to contract the collagen in the vein walls, causing them to collapse and seal, once a leg vein is closed blood flow is redirected to healthy veins.
The Venefit procedure allows for a quick, comfortable recovery and a return to everyday activities, while also improving the appearance of varicose veins. And yes is covered by insurance here in our Las Vegas vein clinic. Of course depending on your insurance plan, you may be responsible for some out of pocket costs (deductibles or co-pays).
MechanoChemical Ablation (MOCA):
MOCA is the most recent technique that has been developed to treat venous reflux. It is now covered by most insurances including Medicare. MOCA uses Clarivein Catheter which is so advanced that uses no heat and hence requires no numbing anesthetic. It is the most comfortable and the safest technique available to treat CVI in the world today.
Dr. Sassan Kaveh is one of the physicians who is trained to perform Clarivein procedure in Nevada.
MOCA™ varicose vein treatments using the ClariVein catheter has many advantages over existing Laser or Radiofrequency techniques including:
- MOCA (Mechanical Occlusion Chemically Assisted) uses mechanical agitation of the lining of the vein together with a sclerosing chemical to glue the vessel closed
- Effective and safe technique with no pain
- Minimal discomfort & negligible bruising
- No risk of thermal (heat) damage as there may be with techniques such as laser or radiofrequency ablation
- No risk of nerve or skin damage
- No multiple needle stick injuries (no tumescent anaesthetic is required)
- No internal leg pressure
- Rapid return to normal activities
Greatly Reduced Pain Levels, Minimal Discomfort & Minimal Bruising:
Compared to other similar techniques (laser or radiofrequency) there are greatly reduced pain levels, discomfort and bruising during and post procedure. This is due to the way that ClariVein works, ie, it disrupts the lining of the vein allowing the highly effective use of a drug which is used to close the vein.
Thermal techniques such as laser or radiofrequency use heat to destroy the vein, and as a result can cause some trauma & hence much of the pain and bruising associated with these techniques.
During a ClariVein procedure, the patient could feel a “buzzing” in their leg which is not painful. There is also a quick return to normal activities.
For the last 10 years laser and radio frequency took over. Now there’s MOCA™ varicose vein treatment using the ClariVein catheter. ClariVein procedure which is now covered by Medicare, is most certainly the future of varicose vein treatment.
