What is IPL?
The Stellar M22™ Photorejuvenation treatment enables us to offer you remarkable results on a range of skin conditions such as age and sun spots, freckles, birthmarks, rosacea, and broken capillaries.
Our unique IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology gently and effectively eliminates spots, discolorations, and unwanted blood vessels by using light energy that is converted to heat energy. It typically targets red or brown-pigmented cells, destroys the damaged cells, and regenerates healthy cells. The light that is not absorbed by the pigment (i.e. an age spot) scatters throughout the skin and will heat the water in the skin and other tissue creating a collagen-stimulating effect. If combined with other technologies like RF-guided Microneedling, triLift, or Resurfx synergistically gives better results by both collagen production to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, tone, and conturing.
Is IPL right for me?
Stellar M22 treatments are not suitable for everyone and may carry some risks. Photorejuvenation is not suitable when you have active infections, viral, fungal or bacterial diseases, inflammatory skin conditions, or skin cancer. Risks may include redness, swelling, scarring, or a change of pigmentation. Be sure to consult with your treatment provider before choosing this treatment.
Does IPL hurt?
The procedure is a little uncomfortable according to your sensitivity. It feels like a quick snap of a rubber band for each pulse. Here Alpha Medical Aesthetics we utilize Zimmer chiller, a special compounded numbing cream and pro-nox laughing gas separately or in combination to give you a pleasant experience even if you have super sensitive skin.
When will I see the results after IPL?
The Stellar M22™ Photorejuvenation treatment works with your skin to remove your imperfections and stimulate collagen and elastic fiber production over a sequence of treatments. Some skin concerns such as shallow pigmentation and age/sun spots can be cleared with as few as 1-2 treatments. Typically 2-6 sessions with 2-4 weeks in between are needed to achieve optimal results for most skin conditions.
What can I expect after IPL treatment?
Immediately following treatment, you may experience some redness, depending on your customized treatment settings.
The redness will usually disappear within a few hours, but you may notice that all of your dark spots are now darker. They will continue to darken and then eventually flake off. People often call this phase the “coffee ground” phase. In most cases, makeup may be immediately applied, and daily activities can be resumed the very same day. Typically we advise you to stay out of direct sun for a few weeks following the treatment and to apply sunscreen.
What is the downtime after IPL?
It is normal to experience stinging, redness, and mild puffiness for a day or so after an IPL treatment, kind of like a mild sunburn. Depending on the severity, and tolerance of the individual, this will not cause any downtime at all.
Most people return to work the same day or day after this procedure. The pigmented lesions will darken immediately after and then fall off within 1-2 weeks. It often looks like dried coffee grounds on the area treated which can be covered with make-up.
How does it work?
Photorejuvenation technology
The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology allows the treatment of pigmentation and vascular imperfections while improving overall skin appearance. Stellar M22 IPL with Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT) enables Dr. Kaveh to customize the treatment according to your skin type and desired results, with maximum safety. Light pulses penetrate the tissue and create heat, targeting the skin imperfection in a controlled manner.
The body’s natural process then removes the treated tissue, while collagen and elastic fiber stimulation occurs, resulting in a visible improvement in skin tone and overall appearance.
The IPL treatment
To ensure utmost comfort, Dr. Sassan Kaveh applies a topical numbing cream before treatment. Depending on your specific concept, you can expect the session to last 15-30 minutes. You may experience a wann or prickling sensation as the laser is applied to the skin, but the treatment is gentle and should not feel uncomfortable. At Alpha Medical Aesthetics we utilize Zimmer chiller, a special compounded numbing cream and pro-nox laughing gas separately or in combination to give you a pleasant experience even if you have super sensitive skin.
How many IPL Treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person but for the most part, 3-6 treatments will get you the results you are looking for.

4 Facts about IPL Treatment:
-
- Treatment for Various Skin Concerns: IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a versatile technology used to treat various skin concerns. It is commonly employed for the reduction of hyperpigmentation, sunspots, freckles, vascular lesions, and redness caused by conditions like rosacea.
- Broad Spectrum of Light: Unlike lasers that use a single wavelength of light, IPL systems emit a broad spectrum of light. This allows the treatment to target multiple skin concerns simultaneously. The light is absorbed by the pigments in the skin, breaking down areas of discoloration and stimulating collagen production for improved skin texture.
- Non-Invasive and Minimal Downtime: IPL is a non-invasive procedure, meaning it doesn’t involve the use of needles or incisions. Patients typically experience minimal discomfort, describing the sensation as a mild snapping or stinging. There is usually little to no downtime, and individuals can resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment.
- Sessions and Maintenance: A series of IPL sessions may be recommended for optimal results, typically spaced a few weeks apart. While some improvement may be noticeable after the first session, cumulative effects become more apparent with subsequent treatments. Additionally, periodic maintenance sessions are often suggested to prolong the benefits of the treatment and address any new skin concerns that may arise.
