IS RFA RIGHT FOR YOU?

Do you have pain in your legs? Do you have leg or ankle swelling or leg cramps? Do you have restless legs? Do you feel you have those pesky dark purple and black lines known as spider veins, or those bulging lines on your legs that make it so you cover up all summer long also known as varicose veins? If this sounds familiar and hits home for you. The Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas is where you need to be. No longer do you have to go through those painful surgeries and vein stripping to get rid of your vein problems. We have a procedure that makes treating your veins a lot easier. This procedure is known as the Radio Frequency Ablation or (RFA).

WHAT CAUSES OUR VEINS TO NEED THIS TREATMENT?

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI):

A progressive medical condition in which the valves that carry blood from the legs toward the heart no longer function, causing blood to pool in the legs and the veins to swell. Varicose veins, which are enlarged veins in the leg that appear like twisted, bulging cords, can progress to (CVI) very quickly if left untreated. There are a number of factors that contribute to varicose veins and (CVI), including pregnancy and heredity. As varicose veins progress to become (CVI), other painful symptoms like leg swelling, leg pain, skin discoloration and ulcers may occur. Although, there are potentially many reasons for leg pain, it is important to note that none are normal part of aging and, hence, need to be investigated.

WHAT DOES THE RADIO FREQUENCY ABLATION PROCEDURE DO TO THE VEINS?

Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA):

Endovenous thermal ablation is a minimally invasive treatment that involves the insertion of a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a diseased vein to seal it shut using heat. Blood that would normally return towards the heart through these veins will then travel through other veins instead. Over time the treated vein shrinks and is absorbed by the body. Compared with surgical options like ligation and vein stripping, Endovenous (RF) ablation results in less pain and quicker recovery time.

The Venefit™ procedure is the only minimally invasive segmental treatment that utilizes radiofrequency energy to provide an even and uniform heat to contract the collagen in the vein walls, causing them to collapse and seal. It is also something Dr. Sassan Kaveh specializes in here at the Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas. Once a leg vein is closed, blood flow is redirected to the healthy veins. The Venefit procedure allows for a quick, comfortable recovery and a return to everyday activities, while also improving the appearance of varicose veins.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE (RFA) PROCEDURE?

The ClosureFast™ catheter is inserted into the vein through a tiny incision below the knee. Guided by ultrasound imaging, the physician treats a 7 cm segment of vein with a 20-second burst of radiofrequency energy, causing the vessel to shrink around the catheter. The physician withdraws the catheter, treating each segment until the entire length of the vein has been sealed. An average 45 centimeters in length of the vein can be treated in this manner in just three to five minutes. Unlike painful vein stripping surgery or laser ablation, the catheter delivers uniform, consistent heat to each segment and temperatures do not exceed 120 degrees Celsius . As a result, the (RFA) procedure causes less bruising and allows for rapid patient relief and recovery. The (RFA) procedure is commonly performed in an office or an outpatient setting and is covered by most health insurances in the United States.

The (RF) Ablation Procedure Advantage:

Minimally Invasive:

The (RF) Ablation procedure eliminates the need for groin surgery and general anesthesia. The procedure also results in little to no scarring and is generally performed using local anesthesia in our beautiful Las Vegas  office here at the Alpha Vein Clinic. Dr. Sassan Kaveh performs the procedure under local anesthesia in our welcoming, private and easily accessible office, here at the “Alpha Vein Clinic”.

Less Pain, Less Bruising, Faster Recovery:

The 2009 RECOVERY Study compared the experience of patients treated with the ClosureFast catheter and those treated with the 980 nm laser. The study demonstrated:

  • Less pain, bruising and complications with the ClosureFast catheter
  • Up to four times faster improvement in patient’s quality of life with ClosureFast catheter versus laser based on a quality of life questionnaire

Other studies have shown that patients receiving the (RF) Ablation procedure return to normal activity and work significantly faster than those undergoing vein stripping.

Excellent Clinical Outcomes:

The ClosureFast catheter has been shown in a prospective, international multi-center study to be 93 percent still effective at three years using Kaplan Meier analysis. The Radio Frequency Ablation Las Vegas procedure is performed as a medical necessity as diagnosed by a trained vein specialist. It is not a direct treatment for spider veins or cosmetic issues, However the successful treatment of (CVI) would produce significant cosmetic improvements and also significant improvement in pain in the lower extremities.
