JUST A COSMETIC ISSUE?

It seems like everything i had heard in my life to do with varicose veins was always about appearance and how it was a huge cosmetic issue! But the results are in and the facts are it’s not just a cosmetic issue. Having varicose veins is actually a very good indication that you could have a venous disease and you  should not wait to get your legs checked.

Cosmetic is defined as ~  Relating to the body or the outside.

Varicose Veins – Not Just A Cosmetic Issue

Varicose Veins are often thought to be an older person’s problem. But most people tend to get their first Varicose Vein in their teenage years. Varicose Veins are also thought to be only a cosmetic issue but, left unchecked they can cause considerable health issues that can compromise your enjoyment of life. Once we take care of the underlying problem the varicose veins will disappear after a while. But if you just treat your varicose veins cosmetically with injections of Sclerotherapy, they may go away for a short time, but they will come back again. So you need to fix the underlying problem that is causing the varicose veins to pop!

Varicose Vein Symptoms:

Issues such as aching leg especially at the end of the day, throbbing, burning sensation, itching, leg cramps, or restless legs can impact your life. These symptoms should not be dismissed as normal aches and pains. More advanced Varicose Vein problems show skin discoloration, usually around the ankles and leg ulcers.

Causes of Varicose Veins:

Varicose veins are caused by faulty valves in the superficial veins of the legs that no longer function correctly. The blood in those veins cannot move up the body, so it just sits in the veins stretching them over time and causing discomfort. There are two superficial systems that transport approximately 2% of the blood in the leg. These two vein systems are the Great Saphenous vein and the Small Saphenous vein. Most of the blood is transported to the heart by the deep systems in the muscles.

The main cause of Varicose Veins are hereditary, obesity, injury to a leg and pregnancy. You are at a much higher risk if your parents or grandparents have had varicose veins. Many people inherit vein disorders. About 30% of women and 25% of men have Varicose Veins.

There is New treatment available and we can help.

Clarivein Occlusion: The Newest Technique to Laser and Radio Frequency for Treating Varicose Veins:

Dr. Sassan Kaveh is one of the physicians who is trained to perform Clarivein procedure in Nevada.

MOCA™ varicose vein treatments using the Clarivein catheter has many advantages over existing Laser or Radiofrequency techniques including:

  • MOCA (Mechanical Occlusion Chemically Assisted) uses mechanical agitation of the lining of the vein together with a sclerosing chemical to glue the vessel closed
  • Effective and safe technique with no pain
  • Minimal discomfort & negligible bruising
  • No risk of thermal (heat) damage as there may be with techniques such as laser or radiofrequency ablation
  • No risk of nerve or skin damage
  • No multiple needle stick injuries (no tumescent anesthetic is required)
  • No internal leg pressure
  • Rapid return to normal activities

Compared to other similar techniques (laser or radiofrequency), there are greatly reduced pain levels, discomfort and bruising during and post procedure. This is due to the way that Clarivein works, ie, it disrupts the lining of the vein (the endothelial) allowing the highly effective use of a drug which is used to close the vein.

Thermal techniques such as laser or radiofrequency use heat to destroy the vein, and as a result can cause some trauma & hence much of the pain and bruising associated with these techniques.

During a Clarivein procedure, the patient could feel a “buzzing” in their leg which is not painful. There is also a quick return to normal activities.

After all you need to know that Varicose Vein treatments are not all cosmetic, in fact they are most often medically necessary and approved by insurance companies.
