THE LEAVES ARE CHANGING BUT YOUR LEGS DON’T HAVE TOO!

Like any disease, Vein disease  is most treatable in its earliest stages. Here at the Alpha Vein Clinic Las Vegas we typically recommend a combination of daily interventions for people with any sort of vein problems in their legs.

Can chronic venous insufficiency be prevented in your legs?

To reduce your risk of developing chronic venous insufficiency you can do these few simple things to help reduce the risk:

  • Avoid long periods of standing or sitting: If you must take a long trip and will be sitting for a long time, flex and extend your legs, feet, and ankles to keep the blood flowing in the leg veins. If you need to stand for long periods of time, take frequent breaks to sit down and elevate your legs to avoid blood pooling.
  • Exercise regularly. Walking is especially beneficial.
  • Consider losing weight if you are overweight.
  • Wear compression stockings.
  • Practice good skin hygiene.
  • Eat a healthy well balanced diet.

The goals of treatment and prevention are to reduce the pooling of blood and prevent leg ulcers.

Compression Stockings for prevention of vein disease in your legs:

The first treatment most often  prescribed by Dr. Kaveh is to wear properly-fitting stockings. Compression stockings can be purchased at some pharmacies and medical supply stores and come in various styles, including below-the-knee, above-the-knee and pantyhose styles. They also come in different compressions varying on what you and Dr. Kaveh agree on to fit your personal need. You will need a prescription for any stockings with a high level of compression.

If you wear compression stockings, be sure to take them off at the end of the day to wash and dry them, and to clean and check your skin. Make sure the stockings fit so there is no bunching. Elastic stockings that fit poorly can actually make your condition worse by blocking blood flow in the area where they have bunched up, so make sure to let us check after you pick up your compression stockings, So we can see it’s a good fit.

Here in Las Vegas at the Alpha Vein Clinic we take pride in venous disease prevention. Even if you have no condition we can see as a problem we will take the time to go through preventive measures with you. These lifestyle changes can play a huge role in improving your vein health and reducing your risk for vein disease, varicose veins, and spider veins. They are also a vital part of an overall healthy lifestyle that can reduce your risks for a number of other health conditions and diseases and improve your confidence. If you feel like you may need treatment for your veins there are a number of different things that can be done to help the problem. The benefit of seeking medical advice is always better than being stuck wondering if you have a problem or not.
