There are two superficial systems that transport approximately 2% of the blood in the leg. These two vein systems are the Great Saphenous vein and the Small Saphenous vein. Most of the blood is transported to the heart by the deep systems in the muscles.
The main cause of Varicose Veins are hereditary, obesity, injury to a leg and pregnancy. You are at a much higher risk if your parents or grandparents have had varicose veins. Many people inherit vein disorders. About 30% of women and 25% of men have Varicose Veins.

The Radio Frequency Ablation Procedure:
The Radio Frequency Ablation procedure is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) in which our caring Dr. Sassan Kaveh inserts a Covidien ClosureFast™ Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Catheter into the bad vein to collapse and close it. Guided by ultrasound imaging, the physician treats each 7 cm segment of vein twice with a 20-second burst of radiofrequency energy, causing the vessel to shrink around the catheter. The physician withdraws the catheter to treat each segment until the entire length of the vein has been sealed. An average 45 cm length vein can be treated in this manner in just three to five minutes. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.
Unlike painful vein stripping surgery or laser ablation, the catheter delivers uniform, consistent heat to each segment and temperatures do not exceed 120°C. As a result, the Venefit procedure causes less bruising and allows for rapid patient relief and recovery. The Venefit procedure is commonly performed in an office or an outpatient setting and is covered by most health insurances in the United States and in several countries in Europe.
Clarivein Occlusion: The Newest Technique to Laser and Radio Frequency for Treating Varicose Veins
