How vein treatments are the only permanent option for truly eliminating leg vein disease.
There are tricks and quick fixes to many of life’s problems. Although some work, they are more than likely temporary. When it comes to your leg vein health, it is important to know which methods will actually last and which will not. There are many gimmicky creams on the market that claim to rid you of vein disease symptoms such as varicose veins but these only provide remedial solutions without actually eliminating the problem.
Many websites, videos, natural health stores, and even doctors offer these types of remedies, such as gels or creams as vein disease prevention, but vein disease is a real disease and not just a cosmetic concern. Although varicose vein creams and gels provide some benefits to the skin, like hydration and firming, they cannot treat your varicose veins once you have them. With leg vein disease, the only permanent relief is treatment of the vein itself.
Another example is the use of compression stockings. Compression stockings are specifically designed to exert pressure against the legs which pushes blood into the deeper veins, preventing blood from pooling in the feet and lower leg. Compression stockings assist recovery, and help prevent blood clots after vein treatment. Note that although compression stockings can temporarily relieve some symptoms associated with varicose veins, the underlying root of the problem remains. Similarly exercise will increase blood flow and possibly help prevent symptoms of varicose veins from worsening, but once the inefficient veins are present they won’t be cured by a new exercise routine. There is no medicine that you can take that can relieve symptoms of vein disease. Treatment is the only way to treat symptoms long term. Without seeking treatment, minor vein dysfunction can lead to much bigger problems down the road such as intense pain, uncomfortable cramping and even venous ulcers. What to remember when seeking treatment
How do you know that it’s time to seek treatment?
When the symptoms of vein disease are affecting you, you may begin to experience swelling in your legs and ankles accompanied by a heavy, tired feeling. Legs with diseased veins tend to ache and cramp especially after a long day of extended sitting or standing. You may notice itching and changes in the pigmentation of the skin near your ankles. Veins that are varicose are filled with the backflow of blood and will appear to bulge and twist. These veins are usually bluish or purple. You may also see spider veins around the area of the varicosities. Spider veins appear as tree branch looking, thin, blue or purple veins. Some avoid treatment because of fear of lengthy recovery time and an unpleasant procedure. However, with today’s technology, there are minimally invasive treatments like Radio Frequency Ablation and, the newest treatment, ClariVein that treat varicose veins quickly and safely. Also, most medical insurance companies recognize this progressive disease and cover all or some of the costs of treatment.
The Procedure
At Alpha Vein Clinic, you will come in for an initial evaluation and consultation. After the varicose veins are diagnosed our physician, Dr. Sassan Kaveh, will assist you in exploring different treatment options. The Radio Frequency Ablation (RF) procedure is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) in which the physician inserts a catheter to collapse and close enlarged leg veins with carefully controlled radiofrequency heat. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally re-routes to healthy veins. The RF Ablation procedure leaves little to no scarring and Dr. Kaveh performs the procedure under local anesthesia. ClariVein has many advantages over other techniques. These advantages include little to no pain as well as minimal discomfort and bruising. There is no risk of heat damage to the nerves or skin as there would be with more invasive procedures such as endovenous laser ablation. This is due to the way that ClariVein works. This procedure utilizes a rotating catheter to aggravate the vein causing it to collapse. As the catheter is removed, a solution is injected into the vein, sealing it shut. With ClariVein there is a rapid return to normal activities.
